Peppol e-invoicing and Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Peppol is the network Australia and New Zealand use for e-invoicing. If you sell to government or large buyers, or want invoices to arrive and post without re-keying, it is worth understanding before your next ERP decision.

What Peppol is, in a paragraph

Peppol is an international framework for exchanging structured electronic documents such as invoices. Businesses connect through an accredited access point, and invoices are sent in a standard format (in Australia and New Zealand, Peppol BIS Billing 3.0). The ATO manages the framework in Australia. An e-invoice is not a PDF by email: it is structured data that the receiver's system can read and post.

Why Australian businesses care

The Australian Government has committed to paying valid e-invoices received through Peppol quickly, and many large buyers are asking suppliers to send or receive this way. Even where it is not mandatory, e-invoicing removes re-keying, speeds approval and reduces mismatched amounts.

Faster payment from buyers that accept e-invoices
No manual keying of supplier invoices into the ledger
Structured data that can match automatically to purchase orders and receipts
Fewer disputed amounts and duplicate payments

How it connects to Business Central

Business Central has an e-documents capability that can generate and receive structured invoices; the Peppol connection runs through an access point provider. Availability and the exact connector depend on the Business Central version, the localisation and the provider you select, so we confirm this with you in discovery.

Our role is the integration design around it: tax codes on each line, customer and vendor Peppol identifiers, document validation, error handling and the approval workflow that follows an incoming invoice.

Customer and vendor Peppol IDs held on the master record
Outgoing invoices validated before sending, with clear error queues
Incoming invoices matched to purchase orders and routed for approval
Credit notes and corrections handled as first-class documents

What we have built, and what we have not

We have built tax-authority e-invoicing for Kenya's eTIMS through DigiTaxFlow 365, and we know what a regulator-connected invoice flow demands of the ledger. Peppol is a different network. We implement it by integrating Business Central with an accredited access point, not by claiming a Peppol product of our own.

Frequently asked questions

Is Peppol e-invoicing mandatory in Australia?

It is not generally mandatory for private businesses, but government and some large buyers support or prefer it. Check the current position for your buyers and sectors.

Do we need a Peppol access point provider?

Yes. Businesses connect to the network through an accredited access point provider. The provider and the Business Central connector are chosen together.

Can Business Central receive supplier invoices through Peppol?

Business Central can import structured e-invoices through its e-documents capability, subject to version and connector. We design matching and approval workflows around it.

Does this replace our AP process?

It changes it: less keying, more matching and exception handling. We design the exception process so it is clear who resolves a mismatch.
