The problem is the second country
An Australian ERP can run an Australian business. Add a subsidiary in Africa and four things change at once: a tax authority that wants invoices submitted in real time, statutory payroll that is not a variant of Australian payroll, a currency that moves against the Australian dollar, and a local team that cannot wait for head office to approve every change.
Most groups respond with a local accounting package per country and a monthly consolidation in Excel. It works until the audit, the lender covenant test or the acquisition.
One tenant, many entities, local rules
Our approach is one Dynamics 365 tenant with a group chart of accounts and dimension model, and a local layer per country: tax codes, statutory payroll, bank formats and e-invoicing connectors. Head office sees a consolidated, AASB-aligned view; the local team sees the rules that apply to them.
We recommend proving the template in the most demanding country first, then rolling it out entity by entity. It is slower to start and faster to finish.
What local compliance looks like
Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria do not behave like Australia. Our products and delivery experience are built around those differences.
Reporting back to Australia
The Australian parent reports under the AASB standards. Subsidiaries often keep local books on IFRS-aligned bases but with local presentation rules. We design the group chart and consolidation so the translation is a defined, repeatable step, with an audit trail from the group number to the source transaction.
AASB 18, effective for annual periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027, changes the structure of the income statement. If you are consolidating subsidiaries, it is worth designing that in now.
How we work with an Australian parent
Discovery with finance leadership in Australia and the local country controller. A fit-gap against standard Dynamics 365. A template design signed off by head office. A pilot entity. Then roll-out. Our teams in Nairobi and Johannesburg work in the same time band as the subsidiaries, and our Australian address means contracting, invoicing and support in Australian dollars and Australian business hours are straightforward.
Frequently asked questions
Can one Dynamics 365 tenant run Australian and African entities?
Yes. Business Central and Finance & Operations both support multiple legal entities, currencies and consolidation. The design decisions are the group chart of accounts, dimension model and which local rules sit in each entity.
Which African countries do you support?
Our delivery and products are strongest in Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria, with experience across other African markets. We confirm the specific country requirements in discovery.
Can the group report in Australian dollars under the AASB standards?
Yes. We design the consolidation and translation so the parent reports in Australian dollars, with local books in local currency, and document the policies auditors need.
Do you have Australian references for this?
Our delivery record is in Africa and Europe. If an Australian reference is a requirement we will tell you plainly whether we can meet it, and we offer a scoped discovery workshop so you can judge fit before committing.
