Migrating to Dynamics 365 Business Central in Australia.

Migration is where projects succeed or stall. The goal is not to move everything. It is to move the right things, prove them, and switch off the old system on a date you chose.

Where you are moving from

We migrate from small-business accounting, older Dynamics products and spreadsheets.

MYOB and Xero: chart of accounts, customers, vendors, items, open invoices and bills, and opening balances
Dynamics NAV and Dynamics GP: upgrade or re-implement, depending on customisations and version
SAP Business One, QuickBooks and others: master data and open items
Spreadsheets: structured into master data and balances, with validation

What to bring across

The default is master data, open items and opening balances at a cutover date, with history held in the old system or an archive. Some organisations want full transaction history, which costs more and rarely pays back. We agree this early and write it down.

Always: chart of accounts, dimensions, customers, vendors, items, open AR and AP, inventory on hand, fixed assets, opening trial balance
Often: budgets, price lists, bank reconciliations in progress
Sometimes: transaction history by period, for comparatives or audit
Rarely: everything

Cutover patterns

We choose one of three, based on risk and complexity.

Period-end cutover: go live at the start of a month or financial year with balances loaded
Parallel run: run both systems for a period and reconcile before switching off the old one
Phased: entity by entity or module by module

Australian specifics

Record-keeping obligations. Most business records must be kept for five years, so decide where old data lives and who can access it.

GST and BAS. Your first BAS from the new system should be rehearsed in migration and reconciled to the legacy BAS, not discovered at lodgement time.

Financial-year timing. Many organisations plan cutover for 1 July or the start of a quarter, which affects when migration rehearsals and training must happen.

How we run it

Discovery and data audit. Mapping and cleansing. At least two migration rehearsals with reconciliation sign-off by finance. A cutover checklist. Hypercare. We give you a reconciliation pack at each rehearsal so the numbers, not a feeling, decide when to go live.

Frequently asked questions

Can you migrate from MYOB or Xero to Business Central?

Yes. We migrate master data, open items and opening balances, and agree how much history to bring.

Can you upgrade our old Dynamics NAV?

Often yes, but the right path depends on version and customisations. We assess whether to upgrade or re-implement in discovery.

How long does migration take?

It depends on data volume, quality and the number of rehearsals needed. We plan it as part of the phased project.

Can we keep history in the old system?

Yes. Many organisations keep read-only access or an archive for history and bring only balances and open items across.
